Nighttime Skincare Routine

Caring for your skin at night is just as important—or even more essential—than in the morning. It’s a way of washing off the day. For those who don’t wear makeup, washing your skin at night will help to clean the dirt and debris accumulated throughout the day. Taking off all makeup is also essential so that no sebum accumulates, causing acne, dry skin, and irritation.

Finding the correct products can be challenging, so I wanted to share my current nighttime skincare routine and a few websites I use to purchase Korean skincare products.

Favorite places to purchase Korean skincare products.

Double Cleansing

Double cleansing is a great way to remove makeup. It involves using two different cleanser types: an oil—or balm-based cleanser and a water-based cleanser. The oil-based cleanser helps remove excess oil and sebum, while the water-based cleanser removes any excess residue and sweat. Ensuring your face is clean will help the remaining products tackle your skin concerns rather than create new ones.

Hanskin - AHA Pore Cleansing Oil

This cleansing oil does more than remove makeup. AHAs, or alpha-hydroxy acids, help exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells and brightening dull skin. It is also formulated with lactic and glycolic acids to cleanse the pores and remove debris. A balm version is also available.

Cerave - Hydrating Facial Cleanser

This lotion-based cleanser helps remove any remaining makeup not removed with the oil cleanser. It is formulated with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and MVE technology to hydrate the skin, retain moisture, and restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier. It is ideal for sensitive and dry skin types.

Medicube - Deep Vita C Pad

These toner pads are a desert island favorite because they are the perfect two-in-product toner and facial pads in one. Vitamin C exfoliates the skin, hydrates, and helps to minimize dark spots. Additional key ingredients to these toner pads include:

  • sea buckthorn extract

  • niacinamide

  • lactic acid

  • panthenol

Avène - Soothing Eye Contour Cream

Avène is an excellent French skincare brand that created skincare products for sensitive skin. This lightweight eye cream is ideal for hypersensitive skin to help reduce under-eye puffiness and moisturize. Key ingredients of this eye cream include:

  • chamomile

  • hyaluronic acid

  • pre-tocopheryl

  • Avène

Real Barrier - Extreme Cream

The temperature has dropped, and the fall season has officially begun, so your skincare routine will change. Moisture, moisture, and moisture are the keywords. This thick and velvety moisturizer improves your skin barrier and helps retain skin moisture. I personally only use this product at night.

Vaseline - Petroleum Jelly

Putting a layer of Vaseline helps lock in all the skincare products. This is essential for me, especially at night when all the products just put on can be removed from the pillow. It also helps to give the “glazed donut” look for ultimate hydration to wake up with bright, plumpy skin.

The Ordinary - 100% Cold-Pressed Virgin Marula Oil

To add to the “ glazed donut” look is a facial oil. This facial oil helps add additional hydration to your skin, reduce irritation, and protect the skin barrier.

Lip Mask - Dr. Paw Paw Overnight Lip Mask

Although the product states it's an overnight lip mask, this lip treatment can be used day and night. It is formulated with papaya fruit, castor oil, and olive oil to soften, hydrate, and nourish lips. This lip product is suitable for all skin types.
